Interface Overview
FrameCounsel's workspace is divided into four main areas. Understanding how they work together will help you navigate cases efficiently.
The Video Player (Center)
The video player occupies the center of the workspace. It supports frame-by-frame navigation, variable playback speed (0.25x to 4x), and picture-in-picture mode. Key controls:
- Spacebar: Play / pause
- Left / Right arrows: Step back / forward one frame
- J / K / L: Rewind / pause / fast-forward (industry-standard NLE shortcuts)
- M: Place a marker at the current timestamp
- F: Toggle fullscreen
The player also shows the live transcription overlay when enabled, displaying the current transcript text synchronized to the video.
The Findings Panel (Right)
The Findings Panel displays the results of your analysis — contradictions, flagged moments, transcript excerpts, and annotations. Each finding is clickable and jumps the video player to the relevant timestamp. Findings can be filtered by type (contradiction, gap, annotation) and severity.
The Timeline (Bottom)
The timeline runs along the bottom of the workspace and provides a visual overview of the entire video or case. It shows:
- Waveform: Audio amplitude for quick identification of speech and silence.
- Markers: User-placed and AI-detected markers (contradictions, gaps, key moments).
- Segments: Color-coded segments for different speakers, scenes, or evidence types.
You can zoom in and out of the timeline using pinch gestures or Cmd +/- to inspect specific moments in detail.
The Toolbar (Top)
The toolbar provides quick access to primary actions:
- Import Evidence — add new video or document files to the case
- Run Analysis — start transcription, contradiction detection, or other AI workflows
- Export — generate reports, evidence packages, or presentation files
- Settings — configure preferences, air-gapped mode, and display options
Tip: You can customize the toolbar layout in Settings > Interface > Toolbar. Drag icons to reorder them, or hide tools you do not use frequently.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Press Cmd + / at any time to open the keyboard shortcut reference overlay. Every action in FrameCounsel has a keyboard shortcut for efficient, mouse-free navigation during depositions or courtroom preparation.
