What Is Contradiction Detection?
Contradiction Detection is FrameCounsel's flagship AI feature. It compares the content of a police report or witness statement against the video transcript, identifying factual discrepancies, timeline inconsistencies, and omissions. This is a powerful tool for Brady/Giglio compliance analysis and impeachment preparation.
Importing a Police Report
Before running contradiction detection, you need both a transcript and a comparison document:
- Complete the video transcription (or import an existing transcript).
- Click Import Document in the toolbar, or drag a PDF, DOCX, or plain text file into the case.
- The document appears in the Evidence Panel under "Documents."
Running the Analysis
- Select the video transcript and the comparison document in the Evidence Panel (hold Cmd to select both).
- Click Run Analysis > Contradiction Detection.
- FrameCounsel's AI engine processes both documents, cross-referencing factual claims, timestamps, descriptions of events, and named individuals.
Analysis time depends on document length, but most police report comparisons complete within 60-90 seconds.
Reviewing Findings
Findings appear in the Findings Panel, sorted by confidence level (High, Medium, Low). Each finding includes:
- The claim from the report — the specific statement being examined
- The contradicting evidence — the transcript excerpt or video timestamp that conflicts
- Confidence score — how certain the AI is about the contradiction
- Video timestamp — click to jump directly to the relevant moment
Tip: Focus on High-confidence findings first. Medium and Low findings may include contextual differences that are not true contradictions but are still worth reviewing.
Types of Findings
FrameCounsel identifies several categories of discrepancy:
- Direct contradictions: The report says one thing; the video shows another.
- Omissions: Significant events visible in the video that are absent from the report.
- Timeline mismatches: Events described in a different order than they occurred.
- Exaggerations: Language in the report that overstates what the video shows.
Exporting Contradiction Reports
Once you have reviewed the findings, click Export > Contradiction Report to generate a formatted PDF suitable for filing. The report includes side-by-side comparisons with video frame references.
Warning: AI-detected contradictions should always be verified by the attorney. Use findings as starting points for deeper investigation, not as final conclusions.
